VFW and VFWA members conduct Buddy Poppy Drives on patriotic holidays and at events.  The red of the Buddy Poppy represents the blood shed in the defense of liberty and freedom.  Buddy Poppies are manufactured by disabled veterans which, for some, is their only means of generating an income.  Posts and Auxiliary Units purchase these Buddy Poppies and distribute them at no cost for the purpose of reminding the public of the sacrifice made by those who were killed or injured in the fight for liberty and freedom. Any contribution made to VFW/VFWA at a Buddy Poppy Distribution is restricted by VFW regulation to directly helping veterans and their families.
